Carson-Tahoe Hospital has been part of the Carson City region
since its opening in 1949. Originally a public facility, it evolved
with the community to a medium-sized acute care facility that is
progressive, technologically advanced and provides a continuum
of care. In the 1990s, Carson City experienced a 30 percent population
growth, spurning the need for a new Master Plan to meet the growing
needs of the community and stay ahead of developing healthcare
trends. The result was a complete replacement of the existing facility
with the new Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center, at a new location
that better serves the region.
In 2002, Carson-Tahoe became a private, not-for-profit corporation,
putting them in a better position for funding their growth and
serving the community.
Syska Hennessy Group has provided engineering services to Carson-
Tahoe for several years which include renovations to the current
facility, master planning and design of the replacement hospital,
and design of the central plant.
New Replacement Medical Center
Situated on 80 acres, the Carson-Tahoe Regional Medical Center
will be two-and-a-half times the size of the exisiting hospital
with 146 beds and expanded services. The replacement hospital
is the result of the Master Plan that Syska Hennessy participated
in. We were then were retained for the design and construction
of this new 3-story, 148-bed, 352,000 sq. ft., $132 million,
greenfield medical center.
The medical center will have the latest in high-tech equipment
including two CAT scan machines and two MRIs. There are also two
vascular labs, eight operating rooms, 24 intensive care beds, eight
pediatric beds, and 12 OB-GYN beds. All the rooms will be private
and will have an extra bed for family and visitors as well as a
computer and charting station for medical professionals. The new
medical center will also be adding new services for the community
such as cardiovascular surgery.
With the completion of this new medical center, Carson City healthcare
patients will no longer need to travel to Reno for hospital visits.
Syska provided electrical engineering services for the new hospital
and a new 13,000 sq. ft. central plant.
